Digital Mural collaborative project with Eke Panuku, Mana Whenua and Pupuke Kāhui Ako

This amazing mural was a collaborative project with Eke Panuku, Mana Whenua and the Pupuke Kāhui Ako, led by our amazing artist, Emma Jane Ormsby, ex Kāhui Ako and Westlake Girls student and involved the work of 66 students artists from across all our 9 schools.

This initiative has drawn our tamariki to gain a greater awareness and understanding of Māutaranga Māori and Toi Māori. The project motivated them to seek further understanding to be able to incorporate kowhaiwhai, Māori motifs and symbols, with care and meaning, into their designs to showcase the natural world of Takapuna. Students were able to reflect in the mural, through their multicultural lens, not only their identity but, also the beauty and relevance of ancestral treasures and whakairo.

The Te Ako o Pupuke Mural is the Winner of the Kūmara Awards 2022
